Future Tense of Verbs (fog + Infinitive)
Hungarian can express the future in two main ways.
Method 1: present tense + a future time word
Hungarians often use the regular present tense with words such as holnap (tomorrow) or majd (later).
- Holnap moziba megyek. [Tomorrow I am going / will go to the movies.]
- Majd írok neked. [I will write to you later.]
Method 2: auxiliary verb fog + infinitive
This construction is used for clear plans or promises. Only the auxiliary fog is conjugated; the main verb stays in the infinitive, ending in -ni.

Note: van (to be) has its own future forms built from lesz: én leszek, te leszel, ő lesz, mi leszünk, ti lesztek, ők lesznek.

- Jövőre külföldön fogok nyaralni. [Next year I will vacation abroad.]
- Este meg fogom tanulni az új szavakat. [Tonight I will learn the new words.]
- Mikor leszel otthon ma? [When will you be home today?]
- Holnap a barátommal fogok vacsorázni. [Tomorrow I will have dinner with my friend.]
- A testvérem orvos lesz. [My sibling will be a doctor.]
- Meg fogjuk nézni ezt a filmet. [We will watch this movie.]
- Ti mit fogtok csinálni hétvégén? [What will you do on the weekend?]
- A vonat öt perc múlva indul. [The train leaves in five minutes.]
- A fiúk focizni fognak a stadionban. [The boys will play soccer in the stadium.]
- Ezt a könyvet biztosan el fogom olvasni. [I will definitely read this book.]
